Changing Your Address

When you’re moving to a new home, you want to make sure everything moves with you — including your mail. You don’t want to take a chance on missing something important, like a wedding announcement, or your tax returns. If you’ve already updated your address with the post office, you’re one step ahead. But, don’t forget about these important people and places too:

• Place of employment
• Financial institutions (banks, loans, credit card companies)
• Insurance (life, vision, dental, health, home, car)
• Doctors
• Alma mater
• Vet and kennel
• Subscriptions and memberships (magazines, newspaper, Netflix, place of Worship)
• Current landlord or property manager, if renting (they’ll forward over any straggling mail)
• Friends and family (Think of all the joyous holiday cards)
• Children’s school
• Online services (Groupon, Amazon, Google Maps)
• Utility companies (cable, electric, gas)
• Paid services (lawn care, babysitter, housekeeping)
• DMV
• Government agencies:
  • Voter registration
  • Citizenship & Immigration Services
  • IRS
  • Social Security Administration
  • Department of Veterans Affairs

Getting through this list may seem tedious, but a lot of these can be handled conveniently online. Plus, the sooner you update your address, the smoother the transition will be. Before you know it, you’ll be kicking your feet up and relaxing in your new home.
